Perks Makes the Arkansas 2016 Best Places to Work List!

The surveys were cast, responses collected, and Perks is now officially one of the best places to work in Arkansas. The award is a measure of anonymous survey data collected from businesses across the state of Arkansas and represents how employees feel about their employer. At Perks, we make it our business to improve other people’s working environment, so we’re honored to be recognized as a pretty great workplace too. So what exactly makes our office so employee friendly? Here are the two biggest reasons:

 

A positive relationship between employees and their managers.

It’s important for any organization to be very careful about who they hand managerial positions to because engagement is affected profoundly by employees’ relationship with management. At Perks, management makes a really conscious effort to build strong relationships with staff members of all levels and the result is some very happy employees. According to CMO Deb Broderson: 

We view the best workplace as a company that cares about their employees, which starts at the top.  A company will not successfully create an employee-first culture if the CEO and executive staff don’t support that environment.”

These responses represent the two critical parts of a successful professional relationship - availability and trust. As a manager or executive, availability is about more than just being present during the workday. It’s about finding ways to engage with employees and give the impression that your door is always open. Being available means investing in high-level problems, and on occasion more granular ones, that affect the day-to-day lives of your employees.

 

The second element, trust, is the most important and difficult to achieve. At Perks, many of the managers work remotely or travel frequently which makes trust extra challenging to obtain. However, because our managers have invested heavily in the personal and professional lives of our staff, people truly believe they are more than numbers. At Perks, employees of all ranks go to bat for one another, which is why we have established such a solid degree of trust.  

 

Employees are Given the Freedom to be Themselves

When you walk into our headquarters, you will see bright green paint, a ping pong table, and employees wearing jeans and t-shirts. In addition to a casual dress code, our company believes employees should be motivated intrinsically. It’s based on the belief that simply treating people with respect and listening to their needs is the best way to get the most of their work.

At Perks, this means allowing employees to occupy flexible roles, collaborate with different departments and take ownership of various parts of the business. When employees come on board, we don’t ask them to conform to a strict set of standards. Instead, we seek unique talents and mold our practices around the skills employees bring to the table. Employees will often stay late and arrive early, not because they are required to, but because they are invested in the work.

Intrinsic motivation is the most powerful motivator there is, and at Perks the company has managed to obtain a high level of personal investment from the staff. As an employer or organization, when you afford your staff the freedom to bring their personalities to work with them amazing things happen.
