March 14th and the Impact to Employee Engagement

March 14, 2014 Deb Broderson

March 14 and Employee EngagementYou may be wondering,  what March 14th has to do with Rewards and  Recognition or Employee Engagement?  Well,  let me tell you.  I woke up this morning feeling a bit uninspired and decided to just wander online for some inspiration.  In desperation, I put March 14th in the search bar to see what came up. Low and behold,  I discovered that it’s Pi Day, Albert Einstein’s Birthday and that the first performance of The Mikado took place on March 14th, 1885.

Why do any of those things matter to me?  What is the link between March 14th and my engagement level at work?  It’s pretty simple.  I was struggling to “engage” with the work I needed to accomplish today, March 14th, and desperately needed some inspiration.  I needed a connection that linked what has to be accomplished with a way to complete that task.

Everyone needs to feel a connection with their job and to the company they work for.  Without that connection,  to the business, to their work and to their peers, it’s just not possible to have a highly engaged employee.  So,  while doing a search on March 14th, helped me,  what are some ideas that may help you and your organization, that don’t cost a lot of money?

How about doing some or all of these:

  1. Monthly company “town-hall meetings” to share the company vision
  2. Regularly scheduled company picnics
  3. Random movie days
  4. Surveys that may help give employees a voice in company direction
  5. Training programs that help guide the growth of individuals within your organization
  6. Pizza lunches, donut days, pot luck lunches
  7. and don’t forget, recognition for a job well done.

Is this everything,  of  course not.  Every company has to find a way that works for their organization.  Depending on the size of your company that answer will differ dramatically.   Want to learn more about employee engagement?  Download our eBook, Cutting Through the Clutter: Creating and Employee Incentive Framework.

In the meantime, have a good March 14th.
